On Sunday, May 24, 2026, as part of the BEroots project “Between Rivers and Lagoons: Artistic Routes,” a cross-border bike ride took place from Podnanos to Savogna d’Isonzo, marking the inauguration of a new cycling route connecting Podnanos and Vipava, as well as Miren and Savogna d’Isonzo. This extended the existing “Educational Trail between Vipava and Miren,” which now connects a broader cross-border area and offers lovers of physical activity, nature, and cultural heritage a new experience between Slovenia and Italy.
The event began in front of House Zdravljica in Podnanos.
The route then passed through Podraga, Manče, Lože, and Slap along the newly marked path. The cyclists then continued toward Miren along the Educational Trail by the Vipava River, where they were accompanied by the pleasant natural surroundings of the Vipava Valley and views of the Vipava River. A special moment of conviviality was the refreshment stop at the Saksida Estate in Zalošče, where participants recharged their energy to continue the route.
In Miren, the group was welcomed by the Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Savogna d’Isonzo, Ms. Alenka Florenin, who accompanied the participants along the Italian section of the new bike path from Miren through Rupa and Peci to the viewpoint at the confluence of the Vipava and Isonzo rivers. This very section of the route particularly highlighted the importance of cross-border cooperation and the integration of a territory united by a common history and shared natural heritage.
The event concluded at the sports field in Savogna d’Isonzo, where the organizers provided refreshments and a social gathering for cyclists and hikers. On the same day, the new hiking trail “In the Footsteps of Rojc” was also inaugurated, which was also created as part of the BEroots project.
We would like to thank the following for their help and collaboration in organizing the event: Lucjan Premrn, president of the BEroots project’s associate partner, the Izvir Vipava Cycling Club; Dimitrij Lulik and the team that organized the tour; and Tenuta Saksida for the excellent refreshments; and for the warm welcome upon arrival in Savogna, we thank the Municipality of Savogna d’Isonzo, Mayor Luca Pisk, Deputy Mayor Alenka Florenin, and Councilor Alida Passon, as well as Ingrid Scozzai of the SDGZ URES Slovenian Regional Economic Association, and the local sports and cultural associations.
