The “Gravisi” Italian Multimedia Centre, the Italian National Community’s new cultural hub housed in the historic premises of Palace Gravisi-Buttorai in Koper, was officially opened on Friday 22 May 2026.
Through multimedia installations, digital content, historical accounts and immersive experiences, the Centre explores the historical presence, language and identity of the Italian National Community in Istria, with a particular focus on the younger generations and on fostering dialogue with the surrounding area.
The content is available in four languages – Italian, Slovenian, Croatian and English – with the aim of reaching a diverse audience, from local residents to tourists, and from schools to researchers.
The “Gravisi” Centre is the first multimedia centre of the Italian National Community and is now one of the most comprehensive multimedia spaces in the whole of Istria, designed as a meeting point for history, innovation and intercultural dialogue. As emphasised during the opening ceremony, it aims to be not only a place to visit, but also a vibrant space for encounter, learning and exchange between different cultures.
The “Gravisi” Italian Multimedia Centre, located in the heart of Koper’s historic centre at Via Fronte di Liberazione No. 8, can be visited by prior booking.
The initiative is part of the “PRIMIS PLUS” project, co-funded by the European Union under the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia Programme.
