The Karst Gmajna Festival - Autumn edition

This autumn, the Karst Gmajna Festival invites you to explore one of Europe's richest habitats across borders. With the 23rd edition of the Karst Gmajna Festival taking place from 21 September to 20 October 2024, in the wider area of the future cross-border Kras-Carso Geopark, the co-organisers of the autumn edition of the Karst Gmajna Festival will offer visitors a wide variety of ways to discover the karst land, and all festival events will be free of charge for visitors.

The festival events remain faithful to the red thread of nature and heritage tourism, and the autumn edition will also offer thematic hikes, workshops, experiences and lectures: an informative and relaxing walk among the geological features of Bazovica, a tour of the Grotta gigante, a hike along a section of the Alpe Adria Trail, a honey festival, a workshop on dry-wall construction, an exploration of the Petrovica quarry, a mushroom day and an active family experience, a stonemason's workshop and a thematic hike along the Pliska Trail, lectures on the use of caves in wartime and on the underground course of the River Reka, an autumn walk between Lipica and Gropada, cycling among the geopoints between Brje pri Komnu and Praprot, a workshop on the knowledge and use of herbs, discovering the geosite with a geologist, a panoramic walk through the Trieste Karst, a guided mountain-biking tour through the unspoilt nature of the Brkini hills, an exploration of the estate and the cultural and natural heritage of the Lipica Stud Farm, and a cycling tour through the meadows of the dreamlike Karst in the surroundings of the of Cerje. (The programme of individual events is available HERE.)

This year's events also mark the International Geodiversity Day, which raises awareness of the importance of the diversity of geological, geomorphological and hydrological forms and processes, and of the preservation of the geological, geomorphological and hydrological natural heritage.

The the Karst Gmajna Festival is again this year co-created by various organisations active in the field of tourism; the Regional Development Agency of Karst and Brkini (ORA Krasa in Brkinov) has taken on the role of main organiser and coordinator of the festival. The co-organisers of the festival are: the Škocjan Caves Park, the Miren-Kostanjevica Tourist Board, Lipiuca stud farm, the Geological Service of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, the Curiosi di natura soc. coop, Grotta gigante, Kras-Brkini Beekeeping Association, Partnership of Karst Dry-Wall Construction, Sežana Caving Association, Hoopsy 4 d.o.o. - poSKOKec, Dobra pot Institute, Rodik Tourist Association, Petra Pika Može, GremoZeleno Agency, Pliska Development Association.
