The Slovenian regional economic association SDGZ-URES and the Municipality of Savogna d’Isonzo, in cooperation with local associations, successfully organized the literary walk Along Rojec’s Paths on Sunday, May 24 20256. The event brought together cultural heritage, nature, and cross-border cooperation.
On this sunny Sunday, the municipal administration invited residents and visitors to a well-attended public event dedicated to the naming and promotion of a new walking route that crosses almost the entire municipal territory and connects all local villages. The trail was dedicated to the distinguished local figure Franjo Rojec, whose life and literary work paid tribute to his homeland.
Franjo Rojec was not only a respected financial expert, but also a deeply conscious patriot, a sensitive observer of society and human relationships, and a passionate admirer of the natural environment. The Vipava River held a special place in his writing, which he described with emotional depth and poetic sensitivity.
The circular route follows paths, cart tracks, and woodland trails, with only a few asphalted sections. Guides accompanied participants through seven scenic stops, which by autumn will be enriched with panels displaying Rojec’s verses connected to the area’s natural landmarks and themes of cultural identity and belonging.
More than fifty local walkers took part in the event, joined by several hikers from Gorizia and around sixty cyclists from Vipava, further strengthening the friendship and partnership between the two communities. Along the route, around thirty representatives of local associations – KD Sovodnje, AŠD Vipava, PD Rupa-Peč, KD Skala from Gabrije, and KD Danica from San Michele – contributed to the lively atmosphere with songs, recitations, music, encouragement, and refreshments.
In total, approximately 150 participants of all generations attended the event: from young walkers without hiking gear to experienced trekkers carrying full backpacks, as well as senior residents, municipal councillors, and local officials. Among them were Mayor Luca Pisk, Councillor for Culture Alida Passon, and Deputy Mayor Alenka Florenin. During the stops, Florenin introduced the European project BEroots – Between Rivers and Lagoons, which will reach its peak on June 19 during the municipal celebration in Peci with the signing of a twinning agreement between the municipalities of Vipava and Savogna d’Isonzo, symbolically united by the Vipava River.
The BEroots project also includes a newly marked cycling route, officially inaugurated on Sunday with the arrival of the cyclists led by Vipava Mayor Anton Lavrenčič. Walkers and cyclists later gathered at the local football field in Savogna d’Isonzo, where members of ŠD Sovodnje provided refreshments and hospitality.
Activities within the BEroots project will continue in the coming weeks. On Thursday, June 5, the theatre group “Ga pihnemo” from Podnanos will perform in Savogna d’Isonzo, while on Saturday, June 7, a choral evening with wine tasting will take place in San Michele.
The event was organized by SDGZ-URES Slovenian Regional Economic Association and the municipality of Savogna d’Isonzo, in collaboration with local associations, as part of the BEroots project, co-funded by the European Union under the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia Program.
