As part of the CLISHE project, a Climate Shelter (Rifugio Climatico) will be opened at the Giuseppe Tronchin Public Library in Maerne di Martellago. The shelter is a public space designed to protect residents and visitors during periods of extreme heat and cold. The opening ceremony will take place on Thursday, 2 July, at 5:30 p.m. at the library. The Climate Shelter will be accessible during the library's opening hours, from Monday to Saturday, 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.–7:00 p.m.
The Climate Shelter is a comfortable, air-conditioned space equipped with seating, drinking water and essential services. It is free of charge, accessible to everyone, barrier-free and clearly signposted, making it easy for visitors to find.
Establishing a Climate Shelter is an important climate adaptation measure. These spaces help protect people's health, especially that of the most vulnerable groups, during heatwaves and cold spells. At the same time, they encourage social interaction, reduce social isolation and strengthen the resilience of local communities to the growing challenges posed by climate change.
