From 24 May to 8 June, the Kras-Carso Transboundary Geopark Week brought together more than 25 free events in the Slovenian and Italian Karst region.
The programme included guided tours of natural and cultural sites, themed hikes, cycling tours and activities for families and children. Among the more varied activities were geo-hunts between Karst villages, a cycling trip through wine-growing areas, hikes through the cultural landscape and visits to heritage properties.
Workshops on traditional dry-wall building - a skill inscribed on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage List - and excursions linking Karst gardens and botanical features were also particularly popular. The events offered visitors an authentic experience of Karst nature, local culture and heritage.
The Kras-Carso Transboundary Geopark Week brought visitors closer to the diverse faces of the Karst and highlighted the importance of sustainable development, cooperation and protection of this unique shared space.
