On Thursday, 9 July, more than 30 representatives of Slovenian municipalities, ministries, energy agencies and regional development agencies took part in the Climate Walk in Ljubljana, organised by the Association of Municipalities of Slovenia in cooperation with the Climate Office and the City of Ljubljana. The event aimed to showcase good practices in urban climate adaptation and encourage discussion on how to design public spaces that remain comfortable and welcoming even during increasingly frequent heatwaves.
A key part of the programme focused on the CLISHE project and the concept of Climate Shelters. Zala Velkavrh from Prostorož Studio introduced participants to the objectives of the CLISHE project and explained how Climate Shelters represent one of the key measures for strengthening the climate resilience of cities.
The presentation was followed by a guided Climate Walk through Ljubljana's city centre, where participants explored a range of spatial solutions designed to reduce the impacts of urban heat. These included shading measures, urban greening, blue-green infrastructure and thoughtful public space design, all of which contribute to improving thermal comfort for residents. Particular attention was also given to the impact of heat on everyday urban life and to the importance of well-designed public spaces for people's health, well-being and safety.
The event demonstrated the growing interest of Slovenian municipalities in climate adaptation solutions. Through its Climate Shelter concept, the CLISHE project is making an important contribution to sharing knowledge and promoting good practices that will help cities become more resilient to increasingly frequent extreme weather events.
