The Municipality of Vipava and the Municipality of Savogna d’Isonzo took an important step forward in the development of their mutual relations in June. By signing a twinning agreement, they confirmed their long-standing ties of friendship and expressed their shared commitment to further cooperation and the development of the cross-border area.
The first signing of the Agreement took place on 19 June 2026 at the Peci Sports and Recreation Centre in the Municipality of Savogna d’Isonzo, as part of the traditional June Evenings celebrations and the official festivities marking the 75th anniversary of the municipality’s administrative autonomy. The second signing followed on 23 June 2026 during the ceremonial session of the Municipal Council of the Municipality of Vipava.
The twinning represents a natural continuation of the long-standing cooperation between the two municipalities, which has been fostered for many years by associations, organizations, and individuals on both sides of the border. In recent years, these friendly ties have been further strengthened through the cross-border project BEroots – Between Rivers and Lagoons, co-financed by the European Union under the Interreg VI-A Italy–Slovenia Programme.
The event in Savogna d’Isonzo was dedicated to celebrating the municipal anniversary. On this occasion, symbolic gifts were presented to the youngest and oldest members of the community, while young people reaching adulthood received a copy of the Constitution. The ceremony continued with the presentation of municipal awards to individuals and associations for achievements in the fields of sport, culture, and community life.
The ceremonial session in Vipava was likewise dedicated to honoring municipal award recipients and distinguished individuals. In addition to the signing of the twinning charter, the Mayor’s Awards, municipal plaques, the Gold Award, and the title of Honorary Citizen of the Municipality of Vipava were conferred.
The twinning agreement is founded on the shared values of partnership, solidarity, mutual trust, and respect for a common European future. The two municipalities committed themselves to strengthening friendly cooperation and promoting collaboration in the fields of culture, education, sports, youth affairs, economic development, and tourism. Particular emphasis is placed on fostering connections among associations, schools, organizations, and other institutions, implementing joint projects, and exchanging knowledge and best practices.
An important aspect of the cooperation is also the preservation of shared historical and cultural heritage and the strengthening of cross-border ties, which contribute to the development of an open, connected, and inclusive Europe.
By signing the charter, the two municipalities have reinforced their partnership and laid solid foundations for new joint initiatives. The twinning therefore does not mark the conclusion of their cooperation to date, but rather the beginning of a new chapter in which Vipava and Savogna d’Isonzo will work together to develop projects and opportunities for the benefit of their residents and the entire cross-border region.
