Wildfire safety is a shared challenge that closely connects both sides of the Karst border region and requires strong cooperation among different stakeholders. One of the ways to strengthen this cooperation is through the introduction of digital tools that support prevention, preparedness and decision-making. These tools are currently being developed and tested within the Karst Firewall 5.0 project.
To discuss their potential and practical application, the Karst Firewall 5.0 team is pleased to invite you to a participatory workshop titled “Use of digital tools for wildfire safety: Opportunities and priorities”, which will take place on Tuesday, 17 March 2026 at 15:00 in the conference hall of the Stone Masonry House in Duino-Aurisina.
During the workshop, the project team will present for the first time the digital wildfire safety platform and the predictive algorithm developed within the project. The tools allow the analysis of wildfire risk factors and help identify areas with increased fire risk before a wildfire occurs. The platform and algorithms were developed and tested by the project’s data partner Infordata Sistemi Srl, who will present their functionality and potential use in practice.
The workshop will also provide space for discussion on critical areas, risk factors and priority actions for improving wildfire safety in the Karst region. Participants will be invited to share their experience and feedback, which will contribute to further improvements of the digital platform and the project’s analytical tools.
The event is intended for all stakeholders involved in wildfire prevention and response in the Karst region, particularly representatives of fire brigades, civil protection units, commons and local administrations, as well as other interested actors.
