The Department of Wood Science and Technology at the Biotechnical Faculty, University of Ljubljana, in cooperation with the WoodInnovate project, announces a prize competition entitled Wood for All at the Department of Wood Science and Technology. The competition aims to promote wooden products created by primary and secondary school pupils and students under the mentorship of teachers.
As the WoodInnovate project has joined the organisation of this year’s competition, now in its sixth edition, the goal is to encourage the use of wood that has lost its value due to extreme weather events and pests (such as wood damaged by bark beetles, wood infected with blue-stain fungi, reddish wood, etc.).
The competition is open to all Slovenian primary and secondary schools, including those across the border. Primary school pupils will create wooden birds from the specified material, while secondary school students will design and make folding chairs. The highest-rated products will be awarded. Winners will receive practical prizes by post at their school address. The best products, as selected by an expert jury, will also have the opportunity to be presented at the Čar lesa (The Charm of Wood) event at Cankar Hall, at the Wood for All at the Department of Wood Science and Technology exhibition in the lobby of the Department of Wood Science and Technology, and/or at the Wood for All at the Department of Wood Science and Technology exhibition in the lobby of the Slovenian Forestry Institute.
Those wishing to participate in the competition are kindly invited to contact us by email at les.natečaj@bf.uni-lj.si. We will provide more detailed information about the participation process, and by prior arrangement, we can also supply a limited amount of material from the project’s resources. Quantities of material are limited.
The competition closes on 23 March 2026 at 12:00 noon.
