RE-ACTIVE LAUNCHES ACADEMY OF PARTICIPATION TO BUILD CLIMATE-RESILIENT COMMUNITIES

Public officials and local decision-makers take centre stage in four intensive training days on participatory climate risk management

Koper, April 2026 — How do you build a community truly capable of facing the climate crisis? The answer lies in training, dialogue, and the active involvement of citizens. Guided by this conviction, the European project RE-ACTIVE is launching its Academy of Participation — an innovative training programme designed for local government representatives and decision-makers responsible for disaster prevention and recovery.

The Academy is developed and coordinated by PiNA – Kulturno izobraževalno društvo (PP3), under Activity 1.4 – Development and Implementation of Capacities for Government Bodies and Civil Society. The programme has been structured around a detailed methodological framework and spans four training days, combining online and in-person sessions:

  • 13 May 2026 – online session
  • 14 May 2026 – in-person session
  • 21 May 2026 – in-person session
  • 22 May 2026 – online session

In-person sessions will be held at the Kozina Business Incubator, Mestni trg 5, 6240 Kozina (Slovenia).

The Academy's goal is both ambitious and concrete: to strengthen the public sector's capacity to plan climate resilience strategies through the active participation of local communities — a bottom-up approach that puts people at the heart of decisions shaping their own territory.

An Open Call for Civil Society

In parallel, PiNA is leading Activity 2.3 – Implementation of Calls in Slovenia, having also contributed to the joint definition of criteria under Activity 2.1. A public call for proposals has been launched, targeting civil society organisations as well as cultural and creative sector entities, with the aim of funding small-scale projects to raise local awareness about the impacts of climate change.

To encourage participation, a free online information day will be held on 13 May 2026 at 5:00 PM (CET). Registration is open to all.

The RE-ACTIVE project is co-funded by the European Union under the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia Programme.
