On Tuesday, 19 May 2026, the Slovenian Forestry Institute in Ljubljana hosted the scientific conference Forest and Wood: The Future of Bioeconomy, which traditionally brings together researchers, experts, and decision-makers from forestry, wood science, and the broader bioeconomy.
This year’s focus was on the role of forests and wood in the transition to a climate-neutral society, the development of a circular bioeconomy, and the challenges of sustainable resource use and biodiversity conservation. An important part of the programme was dedicated to presentations by early-career researchers, for whom the event provides an opportunity to engage with the professional community and present their achievements.
The conference was supported by the WoodInnovate project, which promotes cross-border cooperation, innovation, and knowledge transfer in wood and sustainable management of natural resources. Activities of the WoodInnovate project were also presented at the event, contributing to the development of modern and sustainable approaches in the forest-based sector.
The meeting once again highlighted the importance of cooperation between research, education, and practice for the development of sustainable solutions and the future of the bioeconomy.
