On Saturday, May 24, 2025, Portorož once again smelled of roses – and Mediterranean herbs!
As part of the Rose & Roses Festival, the MEDS Garden+ project presented a true sensory experience of the Mediterranean plant world at its stand, attracting numerous visitors of all ages. During the event, the Meds Garden+ project and the network of six educational gardens in Slovenia and Italy were presented, which combine natural heritage, education, and sustainable development with a strong emphasis on social inclusion. The event, held from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., offered visitors a unique opportunity to learn about Mediterranean plants in an interactive way, receive practical advice on their cultivation, and discover the Portorož Rose, which also grows in the Purissima Mediterranean Garden.
Of particular interest was the sensory station for recognizing Mediterranean plants and seeds, where visitors could smell, taste, and touch different plant species. Those who successfully completed the activities were rewarded with a tasting of fresh local cherries. The MEDS Garden+ project partners set up an exhibition of seeds, aromatic herbs, roses, and artichokes typical of the Mediterranean region. The program was enriched by a demonstration of the production of Istrian herbal hydrosols. The highlights of the event and the initial reactions on social media confirm that it was a truly special experience—visitors praised the welcoming atmosphere, the rich program, and the wonderful fusion of roses, herbs, and gastronomy. Join us next time to discover the power of Mediterranean plants, the creativity of gardening, and the collaboration between Slovenia and Italy! The event took place as part of the Rose & Rose Festival in Portorož, where stories of roses, gastronomy, and sparkling wines bloom every year.
