On Thursday, 12 February 2026, the workshop entitled “Urban Heat Island and Climate Change: Models, Archetypes and Mitigation Strategies” took place at the University of Trieste.
The event, organised within the framework of the PNRR CRiStAll project to share its results, provided an opportunity for exchange among universities, public institutions and companies involved in initiatives related to the study of urban heat islands in the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region.
During the meeting, the HeatIslands Adapt project was presented through the contribution titled “HeatIslands Adapt: a cross-border project to address climate change challenges – the case study of Gorizia and Nova Gorica.” The project activities, the specific objectives of each working group, and the first results achieved were outlined.
In particular, the ongoing analyses carried out by ARPA FVG and ARSO (Work Package 1) were presented, focusing on the study of available heat indicators, the analysis of data from meteorological stations, the use of satellite imagery, and the monitoring campaign planned for the summer. The methodologies to be applied for the assessment of climate models and possible future scenarios were also introduced.
The meeting made it possible to approach the topic of urban heat islands from different perspectives, fostering dialogue among various project initiatives and promoting the exchange of knowledge and experience.
