Work Package 2 of the Karst Firewall 5.0 project has also been completed, delivering the development, testing, and refinement of an integrated digital platform for monitoring and managing wildfire risk across the cross-border Karst region. The work package brings together eight deliverables – from the platform's technical design, through pilot implementation of measures in both partner municipalities, to stakeholder engagement and the project's final conference:
- D.2.1.1 – Digital Wildfire Risk Management System: technical design of the Karst Firewall platform, integrating satellite monitoring, drones, sensors, and resource-management modules.
- D.2.1.2 – Wildfire Prevention Dataset with Historical Data: the first cross-border dataset, feeding predictive algorithms with up to 97% accuracy.
- D.2.2.1 – Implementation of Measures in the Pilot Areas of the Municipality of Duino-Aurisina: selective felling of at-risk pine stands, sensor installation, and drone-based monitoring.
- D.2.2.2 – Implementation of Measures in the Pilot Areas of the Municipality of Miren-Kostanjevica: action plan with pilot measures (preventive grazing, dry stone wall restoration, sinkhole rehabilitation) and results from the participatory workshop in Cerje.
- D.2.3.1 – Remote Sensing Dataset: mapping of 171 fires using satellites and drones, integrated into a web platform with a predictive risk model.
- D.2.3.2 – Near Real-Time Maps of Pilot Locations: methodology and implementation of seasonal drone surveys across three pilot areas.
- D.2.3.3 – Testing and Refinement of Industry 5.0 Digital Technology with Key Stakeholders: results of platform validation at two events with firefighters, civil protection, and local communities in Duino-Aurisina and Koper.
- D.2.4.1 – Final Project Conference Report: summary of the event held in Cerje (26 May 2026), where all key project results were presented.
Work Package 2 translated the scientific findings of Work Package 1 into a concrete, functioning technological solution and practical on-the-ground measures that will continue to benefit the Karst beyond the project's conclusion.
