Ars Sine Finibus
The “Ars Sine Finibus” project aimed to restore the unity of the agricultural and cultural landscape of the cross-border Collio and Brda area through the creation and installation of artistic works within the vineyard landscape. The artworks were created using sustainable and recycled materials, contributing to the development of an open-air cross-border art park.
The project consisted of two main actions:
- the “Young Artists Under 35” competition, addressed to students from Italian and Slovenian art academies, who worked in pairs to create artistic works installed across the territory;
- the creation of the twin artworks “So(g)no”, conceived by the artist Marco Nereo Rotelli and realised with the participation of prominent international figures from the artistic and scientific fields, including Giorgio Celiberti, Valerio Magrelli, Aleš Šteger, Alessio Bertallot and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Prof. Riccardo Valentini.
Through these actions, the project contributed to strengthening the dialogue between contemporary art, agricultural landscapes and local communities, enhancing the value of the cross-border territory within the framework of GO! 2025 - Nova Gorica / Gorizia European Capital of Culture.
- Enhance the cross-border cultural and agricultural landscape of Collio and Brda, promoting a new interpretation of the territory through contemporary artistic interventions integrated into the vineyard landscape;
- Encourage dialogue between contemporary art, nature and local communities, creating opportunities for interaction and participation among artists, residents and cultural operators;
- Support the creativity of younger generations, through the “Young Artists Under 35” competition, which involved students from Italian and Slovenian art academies in the design and creation of site-specific artworks;
- Strengthen cultural cooperation between Italy and Slovenia, by developing a shared artistic project connecting institutions, artists and cultural stakeholders from both sides of the border;
- Contribute to the development of a shared cross-border cultural identity, highlighting the landscape as a meeting point between art, agriculture and cultural heritage;
- Position the Collio/Brda territory within the wider European cultural framework, contributing to the programme of GO! 2025 – Nova Gorica / Gorizia European Capital of Culture.
The project led to the creation and installation of contemporary artworks integrated into the wine-growing landscape of Collio and Brda, conceived as site-specific interventions capable of engaging in dialogue with the agricultural and natural context of the area. Among these are the two twin artworks “So(g)no”, conceived by Marco Nereo Rotelli, with poetic and scientific contributions from prominent figures in the international cultural scene.
Through the “Young Artists Under 35” competition, students from Italian and Slovenian art academies took part in workshops and, working in groups, created site-specific artworks using recycled materials, fostering creative exchange between the two countries.
The installations gave rise to a cross-border artistic route through the Collio-Brda landscape, the first step towards the creation of a widespread open-air art park. The results were presented at the public event held on 5 September 2025 and promoted through communication and dissemination activities.
