Cross Stories
The "Cross Stories" project aims to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of Gorizia and Nova Gorica through an educational and empowering approach for the younger generation. Its innovation lies in the creation of a digital show called "The Telescope that Breaks Down the Border Stories" to improve access to cultural heritage. The project includes cross-border events and the installation of about 10 telescopes through which a glimpse of the city will be visible. One part of the visual field will consist of a printed archival image of Gorizia or Nova Gorica, taken from exactly the same perspective, while the other part will be a real-time view of the city. In addition, cross-border workshops will be organized for children and youth on past history. The other goal seeks to increase the attractiveness of the area by promoting cross-border cultural tourism through the digitalization of the cultural heritage of the two Gorizia cities.
The project, developed through the territories of Gorizia and Nova Gorica, aimed at:
Highlighting the urban historical and cultural heritage by connecting significant sites in both cities through a unified and coherent route.
Promoting awareness of local history by offering residents and visitors a simple and accessible tool for understanding the urban and social evolution of the region.
Strengthening cross-border dialogue by highlighting the historical, cultural, and identity-related connections between the two cities.
Stimulating an immersive and comparative experience through a direct comparison between the current view of a location and its historical image from the same vantage point.
Promoting heritage education for all generations, ensuring accessibility even for the youngest visitors through an intuitive and inclusive installation.
Supporting sustainable cultural tourism by encouraging pedestrian use of urban space through a widespread itinerary.
Integrating analog and digital tools by combining the physical experience of the totem with historical insights accessible via QR codes.
Ensuring technical sustainability and durability through autonomous, self-supporting structures that require no electrical power and are designed for permanent installation.
The project, implemented between the cities of Gorizia and Nova Gorica, achieved the following results:
Permanent installation of 11 interactive totems along a cross-border historical and cultural trail;
Organization of an official press conference;
Inclusion of the Gorizia Info Point, the Nova Gorica TIC and local associations offering guided city tours in the promotion of the trail;
Printing and distribution of informational leaflets with a detailed map at tourist office in both cities;
Development of historical content accessible via QR codes.
