DeBAGUER&MUŠIČ
The project aims to create a new cross-border museum collection at Dobrovo Castle in cooperation between the Provincial Museums of Gorica and the Municipality of Brda. The collection will be enriched with a selection of Count de Baguer's collection, previously kept in the Provincial Museums, and will present the history and culture of the cross-border area. Renovation of exhibition spaces, digitization of cultural heritage, and organization of cross-border events and symposia will help promote sustainable tourism and awareness. The project plays a key role in preparing the area for the European Capital of Culture 2025.
The main objectives of the project were:
- To create a new permanent museum collection at Dobrovo Castle;
- To preserve, restore and digitalize cultural heritage;
- To enhance and modernize the exhibition spaces, including through the introduction of innovative interpretive approaches such as digital content and innovative performances;
- To develop and promote sustainable cultural tourism through the creation of new content and initiatives, including a cross-border symposium and educational activities.
A cross-border scientific symposium was organized to explore the history of the County of Gorizia during the time of Count Silverio de Baguer and the relationship between Count de Baguer and the Collio/Brda region. The event was attended by experts and scholars from both sides of the border. The symposium sought to explore the life of Count de Baguer as well as the economic, cultural and social conditions in the area Gorizia and Gradisca area.
A training program for tour guides was developed, to strengthen their capacity to accompany visitors through the Brda/Collio cross-border area while deepening their knowledge of the region’s history, cultural heritage and other aspects of the territory.
The final conference to present the project’s results and highlight the role of Dobrovo Castle as a venue for the 2025 European Capital of Culture took place in May, and the closing event was part of the castle’s official inauguration.
An exhibition has been set up at Dobrovo Castle that allows visitors to learn about the history and the region where the castle is located, as well as explore a permanent digital exhibition offering an overview of the castle’s history and the role and importance of viticulture over the centuries.
The De Baguer Collection was restored, digitized, and made accessible to the public through a new museum display available in both physical and digital formats.
