The Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Gorizia (LP) and the Goriški Muzej of Nova Gorica (PP) have developed a digital storytelling route that runs along the border between Gorizia and Nova Gorica. The route can be explored on foot or by bicycle and is accessible through a dedicated free mobile app.
The narrative itinerary, approximately 3 km long, invites visitors to listen, stop after stop, to the voices of people whose lives were forever shaped by the definition of the border.
It is an emotional and engaging journey that retraces the events and history of a territory marked by a line drawn in 1947. A story that reveals the memories of a community, bringing to light stories of separation, but also of resilience and hope.
The project’s goal was to promote the history and the culture of the territory as a border area, encouraging slow and sustainable tourism by sharing, through immersive and engaging methods, the memories of the territory.
With the help of digital tools, the project tried to transform historical storytelling into an emotional experience for the public. The initiative was particularly aimed at young people, proposing the itinerary as a complementary tool to traditional teaching for exploring the history of the border.
The event presenting the trail took place in October 2025 and was attended by around 50 participants, including public officials, members of the local community, students, local tour guides and members of the press. It was held at Parco Basaglia, where the project was introduced before participants joined the inaugural walk along the trail, from the park to Transalpina/Europe square. At each stop along the route, participants listened to the audio narrations, enhanced by the presence of actors dressed in period costumes portraying the main characters featured in the stories.
In October 2025, two training events were also held for high school students from Gorizia and Nova Gorica, involving around 180 students in total. On each day, the students walked the route from Parco Basaglia to Piazza della Transalpina, listening to the audio tracks that were brought to life by extras in period costumes who portrayed the main characters from the stories featured in the narrations. The accompanying guides also provided historical context, making the tour an immersive and engaging educational experience.
In March, June, and November 2025, additional guided walks along the route were organised for both the general public (around 100 participants in total across the various events) and students (around 120 students in total across the various events).
The route remains freely accessible to anyone through the dedicated mobile app.
