"Isonzo Kayak Guide" is a project that offers a comprehensive guide for kayakers along the entire course of the Soča River, from the heart of the Julian Alps to the Adriatic. The goal is to shift attention from busy to less explored stretches, promoting sustainable management and cross-border connectivity. The guide involves kayakers from both sides of the border, offering a firsthand experience of the surrounding nature and stimulating the discovery of cultural and gastronomic attractions along the way. The project builds on a successful concept already implemented on the Sava, aiming to foster a deeper connection with the river and support its collaborative and sustainable management.
The aim of the project was for the guide to become a catalyst for sustainable river tourism in the region, and, through the concept of connecting and co-managing the river, bringing positive changes in the field of nature conservation, for the local economy and social inclusion. The book was presented on both sides of the border, which brought closer river managers and the visitors of the river and to fill the current gap in this field.
A paddling expedition of the Soča/Isonzo river from its source to the sea took place in the spring of 2024 with a team of 4 kayakers and 2 cameramen with the aim of producing a book.
The book "Soča from the source to the sea - Paddling guidebook" was published in December 2024. Several book launch events and an exhibition of photographs from the guidebook have taken place. A promotional video was also produced and published.
