H2O SMARTNET
Specific objective: SO 4 - Promoting climate change adaptation and disaster risk prevention, resilience, taking into account eco-system based approaches
Typology: Standard project
The H2O SMARTNET project addresses water resource management challenges in the cross-border area between Italy and Slovenia, where climate change causes increasingly frequent extreme weather events such as droughts, floods, and heavy rainfall. Due to outdated water infrastructure with high water losses, modernization is necessary. The project introduces innovative digital technologies such as smart flow and pressure meters and optical fibers as distributed sensors, enabling real-time monitoring of water systems. This will allow better prevention and responsiveness to potential issues in water supply systems.
Test and implement new technologies for effective monitoring of water conditions and reduction of water losses.
Develop interactive applications to monitor consumption and receive anomaly alerts.
Promote community involvment for a better water managing system.
Promote long-term cross-border cooperation for shared water resource management.
Key results will include the deployment of smart technologies in three pilot areas, the development of two digital platforms for data management and analysis, and the preparation of guidelines for transferring best practices. The project will contribute to reducing water losses, and it will organize specialized training for operators, technical workshops, informative events for local communities, and technical visits to pilot sites for the professionals and support knowledge exchange and collaboration among partners.
