MARE SUPERUM
Policy objective: PO 4 - A more social and inclusive Europe implementing the European Pillar of Social Rights
Specific objective: SO 6 - Enhancing the role of culture and sustainable tourism in economic development, social inclusion and social innovation
Typology: Standard project
The main aim of the project is the development of a common tourist product, based on the principles of social and environmental sustainability that valorise, preserves and promotes the maritime heritage of the area. The advent of mass tourism and its orientation towards single-product tourism has excluded a large part of the destinations and communities in the area from participatory processes, giving rise to phenomena of social marginalization and cultural homologation. However, in recent years there has been a growing interest among some visitors in natural and cultural resources off the famous paths. A request that has to cope with a substantial lack of information and itineraries. Thematic tourism is in fact an emerging trend that differs from mass tourism as it is not limited to the summer period. To address current challenges, the project uses a cross-border partnership, made up of local public authorities, business support organisations, development agencies and research institutes, which is essential for sharing resources, knowledge and practices.
The project is co-financed by the Autonomous Region Friuli Venezia Giulia with a contribution of 539,761.68 €.
- Develop a cross-border tourist offer
- Prevent the risk of social exclusion, favour low-emission holidays and lay the foundations for an ethical and sea-friendly tourism, as well as increasingly targeting less popular destinations so that local communities can also benefit
- Achieve a greater visibility of destinations and a greater availability of the heritage of the sea, increase the number of visitors and develop new capabilities for the actors in the area
Mare Superum will develop a Transnational Strategy and three action plans. In accordance with the results obtained, the project will create a new environmental sampling system, a cartography of the places and the restoration of some sea artefacts and, furthermore, will define a Cross-border Tourist Offer, supported by an online catalogue of the heritage of the sea.
