ALL-MICRO Cross-Training Event Held in Trieste
Trieste, Italy — July 2024
The ALL-MICRO project hosted a two-day cross-training event in advanced microscopy techniques at two premier facilities in Trieste: the Advanced Microscopy Interdepartmental Center (CIMA) at the University of Trieste and the CNR-IOM - Istituto Officina dei Materiali.
Day 1 focused on advanced microscopy at CIMA. Dr. Agnes Thalhammer demonstrated the Zeiss Elyra7 Lattice Structured Illumination Microscope and Nikon A1r-MP multiphoton system, while Dr. Davide Porrelli showcased SEM systems. Drs. Roberta Bortul and Susanna Bosi presented TEM techniques using the Philips EM208 and CM200 systems.
Day 2 continued at IOM, where participants engaged in hands-on sessions. Drs. Simone Dal Zilio and Behnaz Abbasgholi provided training on high-resolution SEM and FIB-SEM techniques, emphasizing imaging, elemental mapping, and cryogenic sample preparation. Meanwhile, Dr. Laura Andolfi covered Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) applications, and Dr. Martina Conti demonstrated confocal microscopy for 3D biological imaging.
The event fostered collaboration between project partners and strengthened expertise in cutting-edge microscopy techniques. Plans for similar cross-training with Slovenian partners will be discussed at the upcoming Interreg meeting in October.
