Although short, the Slovenian coastline harbours an extraordinary wealth of natural and cultural heritage. The new documentary From Sicciole to Punta Grossa takes the viewer on a journey through Slovenia’s most important marine protected areas, revealing their diversity, unique characteristics and importance for the future.

The film showcases the various types of habitat that make up our marine ecosystem – from salt marshes and shoals to seagrass beds and rocky coasts. Particular emphasis is placed on the biodiversity these areas support, revealing the complex relationships between living organisms and their environment. At the same time, the film does not overlook the challenges facing these sensitive areas. Pressures from human activities, climate change and other stressors are affecting the balance of the sea, making their conservation increasingly important. Protected area managers are committed to the long-term protection of these precious natural systems and to harmonising nature conservation with local development.
