MEDS GARDEN+
Policy objective: PO4 - A more social and inclusive Europe implementing the European Pillar of Social Rights
Specific objective: SO 6 - enhancing the role of culture and sustainable tourism in economic development, social inclusion and social innovation
Typology: capitalization project
The pandemic has been to develo attention to sustainability issues, a growing interest in destinations away from mass tourism, appreciating open spaces and authentic experiences that respect local communities. The opportunity gap for the most vulnerable requires promoting the inclusive function of tourism.
During the course of the project, the following were carried out:
- contribute to the quantitative and qualitative expansion and revitalisation of the cross-border tourist offer by enlarging the network of Mediterranean didactic gardens and enhancing the tourist-educational routes connected to them, making experiences more accessible and formative in a sustainable and inclusive way, thanks to a joint strategy of awareness-raising, information, education and promotion;
- make the MEDS GARDEN Didactic Gardens key places for the development of green and life skills and competences for the valorisation of the gastronomic cultural heritage for future workers in the tourism/restaurant/agri-food sector and in the green jobs;
- turn the Gardens into the beating heart of edu-tainment proposals for local/proximity and cross-border tourism, in which awareness-raising, education, playful, sensorial and cultural experiences will intertwine. Local and regional authorities, sectoral agencies, education and research institutions, schools and training providers, SMEs, NGOs and the general public will benefit from the project;
- enhance less famous destinations, characterised by diffuse points of interest spread over conveniently accessible distances, which requires an approach centred on synergies and the ability to engage the visitor in meaningful experiences;
- emphasize that the contact with nature, the conviviality of the table and the cultivation of gardens have a profound educational component, for wellbeing and the recovery of a healthy and balanced sociality and respectful exchange between visitors and local communities.
