The excursion includes a walking route that serves as an introduction to the Celestial Way (Cammino Celeste). Although the official starting point is the island of Barbana, the actual walk begins in Grado, from where the route follows cycling paths and gravel roads to the San Marco pine forest — a place traditionally believed to have hosted the Evangelist who came from Alexandria to evangelize Aquileia. From there, the trail continues along the lagoon embankment to Aquileia, where, after lunch, there will be an opportunity for a guided tour of the basilica and the archaeological sites. The total distance is approximately 12 km on flat terrain, corresponding to about 3 hours of actual walking time. We recommend wearing sports or hiking shoes.
