In the Footsteps of the Cold War

Our journey will take us through places shaped by the social and political division of Europe during the Cold War, offering an opportunity to explore the history of the border in the Gorizia area during this period.

We will begin with a visit to the San Michele bunker on Mount San Michele, which remained in use until 1992. Today, thanks to the dedicated work of volunteers from the Fanteria d’Arresto association, the bunker has been restored and is open to the public. We will then continue to the Miren Cemetery, followed by the watchtower in Vrtojba, which houses two permanent exhibitions of the Goriški Museum.

We will conclude the day with a symbolic walk to Europe Square / Piazza Transalpina, where the border, now marked only by a line on the ground, tells the story of Europe’s journey towards unity. This journey through history, memory and landscape will help us understand how the border once literally crossed through our everyday lives.

Participation is free of charge, but registration is required.

The event will be held in Slovenian and Italian.
