On 23 March 2026, from 10:00 to 12:15, the public event “The Invisible Reserve: Fresh Water Under the Sea” will take place in Trieste, at Sala Tessitori – Piazza Oberdan 5. The event will focus on the topic of freshwater resources located beneath the seabed.

The initiative is organised within the framework of the research project RESCUE – Resources in Coastal Groundwater Under Hydroclimatic Extremes, funded by the Water4All programme and co-funded by the European Union, with the aim of exploring the role of coastal groundwater and the opportunities for its sustainable management.

The event is addressed to the scientific, institutional and productive system of the region and aims to present tools, knowledge and perspectives for the sustainable use of freshwater resources located beneath the seabed, with potential benefits for the environment and for several economic sectors.

The meeting is organised in collaboration with the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia and with the Interreg Italy–Slovenia project WABIN – Water Balance in the Cross-Border Interconnected Nature, with the participation of researchers and representatives of important scientific institutions in the region, including the University of Trieste (project coordinator), OGS – National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics, and Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.

The event is also part of the initiatives promoted on the occasion of the UNESCO World Water Day and is connected to the Blue Economy Forum “The Blue Way”, organised within the WABIN project and scheduled for 24 March 2026.

Participation is free of charge, subject to online registration.
