On Saturday, August 9th, 2025, an extraordinary musical and theatrical event titled “Songs of War, Work and Love” will take place as part of the project Art Against the Rifle, within the official program of the European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica – Gorizia. The event will be held at a symbolic location – by the Church of St. Valentine on Sabotin – a place where history and art meet.

Organized by the Mink Tolmin Association within the GO! 2025 initiative, the event is carried out in collaboration with the Walk of Peace Foundation, GETC GO, ZRC SAZU, PromoTurismo FVG, the Municipality of Miren-Kostanjevica, and the èStoria association, within the project BeWoP.

The project “Canti di guerra, di lavoro e d'amore / Songs of War, Work and Love” presents a contemporary reinterpretation of traditional folk songs from Northern Italy, which have been researched and transformed into an innovative soundscape by artists Silvia Tarozzi and Deborah Walker for many years. The repertoire includes songs about war, work, and love, enriched by the powerful expression of female polyphonic singing.

The project places a strong emphasis on the female perspective. In times of war – as well as beyond them – women often take on physically demanding labor, substitute for men, and, through song, preserve cultural heritage and collective memory.

The sonic concept goes beyond traditional frameworks, rooted in modern interpretation and exploration, while maintaining the emotional core of historical legacy.
