On October 23, 2025, PromoTurismoFVG, together with the Municipality of Duino-Aurisina, organized a press conference at the Sistiana InfoPoint, aimed at Italian and Slovenian journalists, to present the new open-air cross-border Museum of Monte Ermada.
During the meeting, the municipalities of Duino-Aurisina and Komen presented the final outcome of a project resulting from several interventions that have now made this new itinerary accessible.
Accessible from Medeazza, Ceroglie, or Brestovica, along the CAI trail network, the route allows hikers to reach some of the main symbolic sites of the First World War. Along the 19-kilometre trail, numerous traces of the conflict can be found, including trenches, caves, shelters, and artillery positions.
Enhancing the visitor experience are paper maps, directional signage, and information panels equipped with QR codes placed along the path, which allow visitors to explore historical aspects, learn about points of interest, and discover curiosities related to soldiers’ life during the Great War.
The creation of this open-air museum further enriches the use of the route and, thanks to its location straddling Friuli Venezia Giulia and Slovenia, it also becomes an important symbol of cross-border cooperation. Thanks to the Interreg Italy-Slovenia Walk of Peace+ project, the Walk of Peace itinerary continues to evolve, offering new opportunities for walkers and tourists interested in discovering, in a different and more conscious way, the legacy of the Great War on the Isonzo front.
