On 29 August 2025, the project BeBlue – Beyond Bluegrass: Strengthening Sustainable Agri-Food Production through Aquaponics successfully organized a webinar and training session, dedicated to everyone interested in sustainable food production methods and new technologies in aquaponics.
Participants had the opportunity to explore innovative tools developed by the BeBlue project, designed to simplify the planning and management of aquaponic systems:
Economic and environmental calculator for assessing costs, profitability, and sustainability indicators (e.g., carbon and water footprint, payback period).
DiGiPonic user interface, enabling the use of a digital twin prototype and forecasting the development of aquaponic systems.
Event programme:
9.00 – Virtual tour of pilot aquaponic systems at the Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana and Ca’ Foscari University, prof. dr. Ana Slatnar
9.30 – Presentation of the economic calculator (prof. dr. Andrej Udovč, University of Ljubljana, Biotechnical Faculty)
10.45 – Practical demonstration of the economic and environmental calculator (Mitja Kadoič and mag. Miha Štular, KGZS-Zavod Kranj)
The BeBlue tools were developed to support farms with complementary aquaponic activities and will be freely available from 31 August 2025 on the project website.
The project is co-financed by the European Union under the Interreg VI-A Italy–Slovenia Programme.
