On May 13, 2025, Polo Tecnologico Alto Adriatico visited the “Il Tagliamento” Secondary School (agricultural institute) for a meeting and training session dedicated to high school students on the topics of biodiversity and environmental monitoring.
The initiative provided an important opportunity to deepen knowledge about the role of bees as bioindicators, thanks to a biomonitoring lesson delivered by the Beekeepers’ Consortium of Pordenone. During the activity, students gained a practical understanding of how observing and analyzing bees and their products can provide valuable information on environmental health and the presence of potential pollutants.
During the meeting, a “bee hotel” for wild bees was also presented, developed by the Slovenian project partner NIB – National Institute of Biology. The structure will be installed at the school, actively contributing to the protection of wild pollinators and offering students a direct tool for observation and field-based learning.
To further enhance the educational value of the initiative, the school’s zootechnics teacher was provided with the Educational Kit “Discovering the Wonderful World of Bees,” specifically developed for high schools. The kit includes teaching materials designed to introduce students to the world of bees, highlighting their fundamental role in ecosystems and their function as indicators of environmental quality.
