On Saturday 1 June, WWF AMP Miramare, within the framework of the ITA-SLO INTERREG Project POSEIDONE, celebrated the beginning of the month with a special free event, dedicated to families with children aged 6 to 11, to discover some of the ‘winged inhabitants’ of the Marine Protected Area and the Park of Miramare.

The event was held in collaboration with the ornithologist friends of LIPU (Lega Italiana Protezione Birds) of the Trieste and Udine offices, and with the special participation of Franco Sacchetti, author and illustrator of comic books such as ‘Dove i rondoni vanno a dormire’ and ‘Fratini d'Italia - cronache of resistance from our beaches’.

Swallows, swifts, kentish plovers, tufted hawks and eider ducks were just some of the species that participants got to know and recognise, discovering their migratory routes, when, where and why they migrate, how to facilitate their presence on our territory, e.g. by example by implementing the presence and return to horizontal floats at mussel farms, and how important it is to actively protect these species and the habitat needed to accommodate them and to make them reproduce.

An educational introduction in BioMa, the WWF's marine interpretation centre, was followed by a walk from the beach of the Marine Area to the Castle, through the Porta della Bora and Viale dei Lecci, to observe the species present such as the marangoni on the rocks or in flight, but nesting on the towers of the Castle and that in these days are putting on a show with magnificent show with magnificent flights between the Park and the sea.
At the end of the morning, back at BioMa a naturalistic drawing workshop, led by Franco Sacchetti, involved children and parents in the 3D realisation of some cute winged inhabitants of the WWF oasis.
