Civil Protection in Monfalcone strengthened with a new off-road vehicle

The Municipality of Monfalcone has strengthened its civil protection service with the purchase of a new 4x4 off-road vehicle, designed for operations in hard-to-reach areas. The vehicle is equipped with all the necessary tools to respond effectively to emergency situations and will significantly contribute to increased public safety and improved cooperation with neighbouring areas, including across borders.

Civil protection in Monfalcone is considered one of the most active in the region. It includes around one hundred volunteers, who carry out an exceptionally high number of volunteer service hours each year. In particular, the service stands out for the large number of members trained in wildfire fighting, placing Monfalcone among the leading municipalities at regional level.

Since 2018, a special unit for operations in difficult terrain has been active in Monfalcone, representing a unique example in the region. In 2019, an emergency telecommunications unit was also established, which, through a dedicated vehicle, ensures radio, satellite and internet communications even in the event of a complete failure of traditional communication networks.

The new off-road vehicle will be essential for interventions during floods, severe weather events, fires, search operations for missing persons, as well as for the protection of people and animals during increasingly frequent extreme weather events. It will also allow safer and easier access to karst areas, where interventions have so far been particularly challenging without appropriate equipment.

The vehicle will also be used during joint cross-border exercises, where rescue teams from different countries will train together in emergency response. This will lead to better coordination and faster, more effective interventions.
