The Karst Firewall 5.0 project is successfully underway, and the first results are already visible. As part of the project, we will hold a partnership conference on Tuesday, May 27th 2025, at the Info Point Sistiana (Municipality of Duino-Aurisina, Italy).
This event will mark the first public presentation of the project, where we will showcase key initial results, including:
- Risk and vulnerability assessment of the karst region.
- Algorithmic model for predicting fire hazard levels.
- Guidelines for reducing fire risks and adapting to climate change.
The Karst Firewall 5.0 project aims to enhance the resilience of the karst environment against wildfires through innovative technological solutions and cross-border cooperation between Slovenia and Italy. We will present the project’s key activities, including the use of advanced technologies such as drones, satellite imagery, artificial intelligence-based predictive algorithms, and sensor systems for early fire detection.
During the conference, the following deliverables will also be presented: D1.1.1 Report on Climate Change and Wildfire Risk; D1.1.2 Assessment of the Vulnerability and Wildfire Risk of the Karst Ecosystem; D1.2.1 Predictive Algorithm Models; D1.2.2 Optimized Resource Allocation: Guidelines and Policy Recommendations and D1.3.1 Strategy Manual for Wildfire Prevention and Adaptation.
All associated partners and relevant stakeholders working in the fields of environmental protection, forestry, civil protection, and the development of sustainable fire management strategies are invited to attend the event.
