As part of the Interreg AidMIRE project, on May 17, 2025, a demonstration simulation (DEMO) of a mass emergency event affecting the Italian-Slovenian border areas was held at Socerb Castle in Slovenia.
The initiative was organized by the Civil Protection Department of Koper, assisted, among others, by the Izola Health Centre, which contributed its extensive expertise in health emergency management and cross-border institutional cooperation.

During the exercise, project partners (PP) and authorities (PA) were able to verify several key aspects of emergency management, including:
- the efficiency of incident notification and communication;
- coordination among all parties involved in accordance with shared protocols;
- management of initial data collection (number of casualties, hospital bed availability, staff mobilization, etc.);
- smooth handling of patient transfers to receiving hospitals.
At the end of the exercise, an in-depth analysis was carried out, resulting in the drafting of a technical report, followed by a final evaluation that will confirm the definitive content of the operational protocols.
This demonstration activity is a concrete step towards strengthening cross-border cooperation in the field of civil protection and mass emergency management, contributing to the full achievement of the AidMIRE project objectives.
