On Tuesday, October 28, 2025, as part of the CrossTerm project – Cross-border standardization of institutional terminology, co-financed by the European Union through the Interreg VI-A Italy–Slovenia Programme, ARLeF – the Regional Agency for the Friulian Language, in its role as a project partner, coordinated the first of four meetings dedicated to the transfer of best practices in promoting multilingualism.
During the event, ARLeF illustrated how a minority language with an ancient tradition, such as Friulian, can find space and be valorised even within the most modern digital communication platforms and social media.
The group of participants, composed of almost thirty representatives from various partner and associated organizations, included – besides ARLeF – SLORI (the Slovene Research Institute), as the Lead Partner, the Central Office for the Slovenian Language of the FVG Region, the self-governing coastal Community of Italian nationality – CAN Costiera, the Faculty of Computer and Information Science at the University of Ljubljana, and the Science and Research Centre Koper. Participants explored the different methods and communication tools used to promote the Friulian language, with particular attention to television media and social networks.
The first presentation was given by the Director of the Regional Agency for the Friulian Language, Dr. William Cisilino, who provided an in-depth explanation of the coexistence of minority languages present in the regional territory, the forms of legal protection reserved for them, and the social valorisation actions promoted by the Agency.
In the second part of the meeting, Dr. Adriana Cruciatti, head of the ARLeF Press Office, presented the topics that will be developed in the upcoming meetings, focusing on the ideation, creation, and management of content for the Agency's social media pages. The annual awareness campaigns on the use of the Friulian language, the children's television program "Maman" – in both its television and print versions – and other linguistic and cultural promotion initiatives were also presented.
The session concluded with a lively discussion: the numerous comments and questions from the participants demonstrated a strong interest in the topics covered and a particular curiosity about the content of the upcoming meetings. The latter will be dedicated to an in-depth look at the creative and strategic aspects of ARLeF's social projects, such as "YoupalTubo" and "TicetacFurlan", to the graphic and video design of digital communication with the contribution of a graphic designer, and to the analysis of SEO strategies for social media, with input from the Agency's Digital Strategy Consultant.
