On Thursday, June 26, the second Local Event of the European RECREATE project took place, with the Municipality of Spinea playing a leading role by presenting its experience as a public authority in the management of fiber-reinforced composite (FRC) waste—one of the most complex materials to collect and recycle.
The Mayor of Spinea, Eng. Franco Bevilacqua, opened the meeting by emphasizing the importance of collaboration among public institutions, each contributing with its own expertise to begin building a shared path. The event was attended by the Veneto Region, the Metropolitan City of Venice, ARPAV, and the CTRL + JUNK LAB Research Center of IUAV University of Venice.
During the online meeting, presented by Dr. Monica Salviato from the Municipality of Spinea, updated technical data were shared and pilot actions carried out in the local area were illustrated, including awareness-raising initiatives aimed at citizens, schools, and waste collection operators.
Franco Mioni, representing partner company Gees Recycling, also spoke, illustrating how new products made from recycled FRC were developed in compliance with required performance standards and the environmental criteria of public procurement. A concrete example of public-private cooperation to build a replicable, regulation-compliant circular economy model.
To conclude the event, Dr. Chiosi, Director of the Waste Cycle and Circular Economy Unit of the Veneto Region’s Department for Environment and Ecological Transition, highlighted the existence of regional tools:
both concerted and evaluative, with dedicated working groups where experiences from projects like RECREATE can serve as a valuable foundation for guidelines;
and economic tools linked to ERDF programming, such as the upcoming regional call supporting municipalities and EGATOs for improving waste sorting infrastructure.
It was an important moment of dialogue and coordination among public institutions on the topic of circular economy.
