The Municipality of Miren-Kostanjevica began the implementation of the external arrangement of the surroundings of the Monument of Peace at Cerje in October 2025. The development is being carried out within the framework of two projects co-financed by the Interreg VI-A Italy–Slovenia Programme 2021–2027.
These are the KARST ADAPT project, which covers the remaining part of phase 2 of the external arrangement, and the BeWoP project, which addresses the phase 4.
Within the KARST ADAPT project, we are completing the remaining part of phase 2 of the external arrangement of this unique monument–museum, following the core concept of the original design by using durable and resilient natural materials (stone, concrete, wood, metal) and adapting to the terrain and weather conditions of the site.
The arrangement has been carefully designed, as the planned measures are intended for various users: pedestrians, cyclists, riders, drivers, as well as visitors to the museum and events.
Construction and craft works are being carried out in phases, by individual parts of the structure – functional units – and in this case include: the construction of a new eastern access and service road with a turning area, an eco-island, 48 parking spaces, a bus stop, and a southern pedestrian ramp. The investment also includes the arrangement of part of the public lighting and an irrigation system.
The investment, currently in its final phase, represents a significant contribution for all visitors of Cerje and has a positive impact on the entire programme area.
The municipality plans to complete the investment before the summer of 2026.
