The first day was dedicated to the conclusion of the Cross-border School for Archaeological Research of the Castellieri and Dry-stone Construction. Participants had the opportunity to learn about the results of archaeological research, new topographic data, scientific insights and examples of good practices, all of which contribute to a better understanding, protection and promotion of prehistoric settlements in the Karst, Istria and the wider cross-border area.
On this occasion, certificates of participation were also awarded, marking the conclusion of a shared path of learning, research and cooperation. The programme was further enriched by an exhibition of replicas of Histrian jewellery, which brought visitors closer to the aesthetic and cultural world of prehistoric communities. The day ended in a pleasant and friendly atmosphere, with an opportunity for exchange and discussion among participants, experts, partners and visitors.
The second day of the festival took place in Elleri, in a festive, relaxed and creative atmosphere. Visitors of all ages could take part in a gong sound bath, creative workshops for children, an archaeological sandbox, a demonstration of prehistoric weaving and a workshop dedicated to making the Istrian folk instrument known as the “nunalca”. The guided walk along the archaeological trail and the guided cycling tour along the castellieri route also attracted great interest, offering participants a direct experience of the landscape, the area and its cultural heritage.
The programme was completed by music and dance performances, the Castellieri market, the Ex-tempore exhibition and the participation of associations, local producers and cultural operators. For one day, Elleri became a lively meeting point of heritage, art, knowledge, nature and community.
Our sincere thanks go to all participants, artists, speakers, workshop leaders, project partners, associations, local producers and visitors who, through their presence, knowledge, energy and enthusiasm, contributed to the success of the event. Each of them was an important part of this shared story.
The Festival of the Castellieri once again showed how important it is to preserve, study and promote the rich heritage of prehistoric castellieri, making it alive, accessible and meaningful for all generations. Events like this not only connect the past with the present, but also bring together people, places and communities across borders.
Thank you for being part of this special story. See you at the next events along the paths of the castellieri!
