In Nova Gorica, on October 17, the final conference of the IN4SAFETY project was held. The event continued the following day across the border, in Transalpina Square, where, on a beautiful autumn day, visitors could admire an exhibition of firefighting and civil protection vehicles and equipment from Slovenia and Italy.
During the closing conference, numerous partners presented the project’s results, shared their experiences from the large cross-border exercise GOIn4Safety held in June, and showcased the training activities carried out within the project. The event also provided an opportunity to present other cross-border projects in the field of civil protection and emergency response, addressing challenges similar to those tackled by IN4SAFETY.
Participants shared the outcomes of their activities and presented projects related to IN4SAFETY’s main themes. Their contributions enriched the overall experience by offering data, tools, and best practices that strengthen the collaboration network between Italy and Slovenia, laying solid foundations for future cross-border cooperation.
In particular, the presentations focused on key topics such as:
– management of hydrogeological risks and landslide monitoring in Friuli Venezia Giulia;
– development of early warning systems for extreme weather and seismic events (CRISAFE, SaferCAST projects);
– strengthening local resilience and cross-border healthcare cooperation (EDURES, ReBUS, SANITAS projects);
– interoperability of monitoring and emergency response systems (CONCORDIA project);
– wildfire prevention in the Karst region (KARST-SAFE project);
– field experiences and early warning systems involving first responders (CROSS ALERT project).
The following day, activities moved right to the border: in Transalpina Square, all partners set up a large exhibition of rescue and protection vehicles and equipment from both Slovenia and Italy.
Transalpina Square and the EPICenter were transformed into a major Safety Fair, open to everyone. The day offered a rich program of activities designed to engage the public in an educational and participatory experience.
Visitors could explore firefighting, civil protection, and forestry vehicles and equipment up close, watch spectacular simulations — including controlled explosions, rescue demonstrations, and fire extinguishing exercises — and take part in themed games and activities with gadgets aimed at raising awareness among adults and children about safety issues.
Inside the EPICenter, meetings and discussions were held with experts, addressing topics such as wildfire prevention, the use of satellite imagery, GIS systems, and lessons learned during the GOIn4Safety exercise.
The IN4SAFETY final event represented an important moment for both Italian and Slovenian citizens. It demonstrated how cooperation, knowledge, and participation are fundamental elements in building safer, more aware, and more resilient communities.
