On Thursday, 12 February 2026, the final event of the cross-border project WALKofPEACE+ took place. The event, intended for project partners and stakeholders, originally included a planned hike to Ermada/Grmada; however, due to adverse weather conditions, the hike was cancelled and the programme was adjusted accordingly.
Participants gathered at the Municipality of Duino–Aurisina, where a Letter of Intent was signed between the municipalities of Duino–Aurisina and Komen, confirming their continued cross-border cooperation in the preservation and interpretation of the Walk of Peace heritage. This was followed by a visit to the “Diego de Henriquez” Museum of War for Peace in Trieste, where participants explored the permanent exhibitions featuring a rich collection of artefacts, documents, photographs and military equipment from the 20th century, shedding light on the history of both World Wars and highlighting the importance of understanding the past as a foundation for building peace.
The programme continued with a joint lunch in Sistiana and concluded with a return to Duino. Despite the modified programme, the event successfully brought together project partners and emphasized the importance of sustainable cross-border cooperation and shared responsibility for preserving the heritage of the area.
