On Thursday, 22 January 2026, the joint cross-border workshop (DS 3) presenting the platform and glossaries was held. This introductory workshop, the first in a series of five, was dedicated to presenting the CrossTerm project – Crossborder standardization of institutional terminology and its results, primarily the terminology glossaries and the online terminology tool.
Within the project, cross-border expert working groups focused on standardizing terminology in specific fields. The Central Office for the Slovenian Language of the FVG Region developed a glossary for urban and spatial planning. It contains translation proposals from Italian into Slovenian, including some translations into Friulian. CAN Costiera standardized labour law terminology and emphasized the importance of accurate translations for cross-border workers. The translations will also be made available in Friulian. ARLeF dedicated its efforts to the terminology standardization of administrative law in Friulian. They also presented strategies for promoting the Friulian language, including the use of social media and materials for children. SLORI focused on the translation of titles and professional qualifications.
The new terminology platform developed by Faculty of Computer and Information Science at the University of Ljubljana (CJVT) was also presented. The platform contains digital glossaries of the standardized terms created within the project, along with attributed source data. A key component is an application that allows users to paste text; the system then automatically recognises the terminology and displays the corresponding definitions and translations from the CrossTerm database and linked resources.
The presented platform is a test version and will be further upgraded in the coming months. Users are invited to test it and submit content-related suggestions as well as proposals for technical improvements.
The remaining four thematic workshops will take place in the coming weeks. The final workshop will be held live in Ljubljana on 25 February 2026.
