As part of the KRAS-CARSO II project, co-financed by the EU under the Interreg VI-A Italy–Slovenia Programme, a geology workshop for 9th-grade students was held on Friday, 28 November 2025, at Miren Elementary School. The workshop was led by representatives of the project partners, the Škocjan Caves Park and the Slovenian Environment Agency, who provided the students with an engaging and educational exploration of the geology of the Karst region.
As part of the workshop, the students attended a lecture on the formation and geological history of the Karst region, the profession of a geologist, and karst phenomena, and they identified rocks and fossils. For rock identification, the students also tried out the mobile app Kamencheck. This was followed by a field trip, during which they identified rocks and fossils in walls and in the village well (štirna) in the town center, visited a nearby abandoned quarry, and examined the pebbles of the Vipava River. The students also carried out an acid reaction test on the rocks.
