Before the summer began, the CROSS ALERT project started, the full title of which is "Development of joint action plans and tools to prevent the effects of climate change and extreme events in the Italian-Slovenian cross-border area".
In addition to the Municipality of Ajdovščina, which will assume the role of the lead partner and will be leading the project as well as monitoring the work of the other partners, we are very pleased to welcome the following partners: Municipality of Postojna, IGEA, Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Municipality of Monfalcone, Metropolitan City of Venice. We are also pleased to welcome the associated partners: Ajdovščina Health Center, Geodetic Institute of Slovenia and Karst Local Action Group S.C.A.R.L.
Emergency management resulting from extreme weather events requires the adoption of shared practices among cross-border authorities. The project aims to improve the response of emergency responders to natural disasters in the area between Italy and Slovenia. The project introduces two innovations, namely: the establishment of a first responder system with SOS points in the border area and the development of digital tools to support disaster management, damage limitation and its consequences. The first responder system is already well developed in Slovenia, but less used in inaccessible terrain, while it does not yet exist in Italy. By establishing an SOS point at the Slovenian-Italian border we will transfer the first responder system to Italian partners as an example of good practice. Digital tools will include a hazard warning map, a remote sensing system for disaster dimensions, and an automated post-incident recovery monitoring system.
