Marine protected areas are of fundamental importance for the conservation of biodiversity and the protection of marine ecosystems. They support numerous ecosystem, social and economic services from which both nature and humans benefit. Curious young people who know and love the marine environment are the ones who will protect and preserve it in the future. Last week, Year 7 students explored the marine biotic diversity of the Punta Grossa Natural Park. In collaboration with the Istria Counseling Center, we conducted a hands-on workshop during a camp for gifted seventh graders. Students learned about the importance of the park, gained insight into marine fauna and flora in coastal areas and the importance of biotic diversity for the sea and people.
The workshop was conducted within the POSEIDONE project of the Interreg Italy-Slovenia programme.
