FVG Orchestra concert: 'Beethoven: From Darkness to Light'
On the evening of Thursday 28 May, the FVG Orchestra's concert 'Beethoven: From Darkness to Light' took place at the Giuseppe Verdi Theatre in Gorizia, marking the third and final big event of the BeWoP project. The FVG Orchestra presented a double bill exploring the tension in Beethoven's work between titanic grandeur and spirituality, bringing together two masterpieces composed in the same year (1807) in an ideal journey 'from darkness to light'. The programme featured the Coriolan Overture in C minor, Op. 62, and the Mass in C major for soloists, choir and orchestra, Op. 86. The event, which required advance booking, was attended by 531 people.
èStoria Transfrontaliero
At the end of May, Gorizia’s traditional history festival returned once again, this year for the second time in a cross-border format. The cross-border programme included 13 events held over four days, from Thursday, 28 May, to Sunday, 31 May. Of these, seven events were held in Nova Gorica (at the EPIC Centre or the Maks Bookstore Café), while six took place in the centre of Gorizia. All events were accessible to both Italian and Slovenian audiences thanks to simultaneous or consecutive interpreting (Italian, Slovenian and/or English). Attendance at the events was impressive, with a total of 480 people attending the various sessions.
èStoriaBus
During the èStoria Festival, two èStoriaBus tours took place: on Saturday 30 May and Sunday 31 May. Both tours followed a section of the Cammino Celeste: on Saturday 30 May, participants, accompanied by Aurelio Pantanali and Stefanye Leon, visited the sanctuary of Castelmonte and the charming village of Aiello del Friuli with its sundials. The day concluded with a guided tour of the Basilica and the most recently opened archaeological sites in Aquileia. On Sunday 31 May (an outing aimed at families), participants followed the cycle path and dirt tracks from Grado to the San Marco pine forest. From there, along the lagoon embankment, they reached Aquileia, where they visited the Basilica and the archaeological sites. In total, the route covers approximately 12 km, all on flat terrain, taking around 3 hours of actual walking time.
Unfortunately, although places had been fully booked in the days leading up to the event, there were several last-minute cancellations.
