In the area downstream of the Sagrado weir, a new continuous monitoring equipment for the Isonzo River has been successfully installed, enabling uninterrupted observation of hydrological conditions in this section of the river.
The equipment measures the water level, which is then used to indirectly calculate the river discharge. This provides reliable data on the dynamics of the water regime and the amount of water in the Isonzo River.
The system includes a water level sensor, a data processing unit, and a remote data transmission system (GPRS/GSM), which enables real-time transmission of information to the operator’s control system. It operates autonomously using solar panels and batteries.
The installation process included all key phases, such as installation, start-up, configuration, and calibration, supported by additional field hydrometric measurements to ensure data accuracy.
The equipment was deployed within the activities of the Consorzio di Bonifica della Venezia Giulia, with the aim of improving monitoring of the Isonzo River’s water regime. It contributes to more efficient water management and supports the protection of aquatic environments and fish habitats.
Thanks to the new equipment, more precise and continuous monitoring of the Isonzo River is now possible, providing important support for the sustainable management of this transboundary water system.
