The ninth collection of contributions from the WABIN Contest – Wigwam Italian Press Award is now available, continuing the initiative to showcase the works created by young participants within the framework of the Interreg Italy-Slovenia WABIN project.
This collection takes readers on a journey through Chioggia and its lagoon, where water is presented as a defining feature of local identity, an economic resource, and a cultural heritage. Through stories, interviews, and in-depth articles, readers can explore fishing traditions, oyster farming, local legends, religious devotion, and the delicate balance between people and the lagoon environment. The collection also reflects on current environmental challenges, such as the spread of the blue crab, and on the opportunities offered by more sustainable water management models.
Alongside the contributions dedicated to the Venetian Lagoon, the collection explores other territories united by the value of water: from the springs of Scorzè to the CEFAP of Codroipo initiatives promoting ditch culture, as well as the rediscovery of historic washhouses and projects for the renaturalization of waterways. Together, these stories demonstrate how water continues to connect memory, biodiversity, innovation, and sustainable development.
