One of the focal points of the TARTINI BIS project was the research activity, conducted mainly at the Library of the Conservatory “Benedetto Marcello” in Venice, the Biblioteca Marciana, and the “Milner” Library of the “Ugo e Olga Levi” Foundation in Venice. Over 130 musical sources containing 90 compositions and theoretical writings by Tartini were studied, with analysis of manuscripts and prints from the 18th and 19th centuries, their codicological features, and musical content, as well as their bibliographic and cultural contextualization. This work preceded the digitization of the new sources, carried out by the Conservatory “Benedetto Marcello” in collaboration with the University “Ca’ Foscari.”

Part of the research led to the writing of the essay “The Compositions of Giuseppe Tartini in the Venetian Musical Collections”, accompanied by two summary tables of the sources, the results of which were presented in two workshops of the project.

Another research strand focused on the Tartini Family Collection, preserved at the Piran branch of the Regional Archives of Koper, involving the review, reorganization, and digitization of the material published on the Discover Tartini website. Initially, the already digitized material was analyzed, identifying critical issues such as difficult access, incomplete digitization, or errors. Subsequently, the Piran Collection, consisting of 11 archival folders and 445 archival items (letters, documents, calculations, newspaper clippings, etc.), was examined in detail according to the inventory by Albert Pucer, reorganized, and completed with missing documents, some of which are exhibited in the Tartini House in Piran.

Finally, the inventoried and digitized documents were compared with those already available online, defining the material to be published on discovertartini.eu, under the care of the Bruno and Michèle Polli Documentation and Tartini Studies Center at the “Giuseppe Tartini” Conservatory in Trieste.
